Types of Procurement Opportunities

Under the Purchasing Policy, there are five (5) types of competitive procurement methods which may be used by the Consortium to obtain goods and/or services.

A Request for Information (RFI) is used to obtain supplier or product information and it is not typically used to award a contract. RFIs are used to obtain information on the feasibility and availability of specific goods and services to determine if there are enough suppliers to justify a Request for Proposal (RFP) or Request for Tender (RFT) and to assist in estimating general costs.

A Request for Supplier Qualifications (RFSQ) is used to gather information about supplier capabilities and qualification in order to pre-qualify supplier for current and/or future service need.

A Request for Proposal (RFP) is used for the formal procurement and delivery of complex goods / services where the goods and services may not be able to be fully defined or specified, or when alternate methods are being sought to perform a certain function or service, at the time of request.

A Request for Tender (RFT) is used for the formal procurement of goods/services where delivery requirements, performance specifications, and related terms and conditions are able to be fully defined or specified at the time of the request.

A Request for Quotation (RFQ) is used for the informal procurement of goods/services where the goods / services are described exactly.
